Convergence CEO donates his time to SPCA
16 November 2010: When it was time to activate the area coordinators for The Auckland SPCA's big 2010 annual 'Street Angels Appeal', Fundraising Manager, Jeanine Gribbin, knew exactly who to call. This is the second year Convergence CEO, Mark Presnell, has assisted the SPCA acting as Area Coordinator for the Highland Park and Pakuranga subburbs in Eastern Auckland. From 9am on Friday, 12 November right through to 6pm on Sunday, 14 November, Mark was constantly on the move between four collection sites at Westfield Pakuranga Mall, The Warehouse Pakuranga, Countdown Highland Park and Foodtown Highland Park bagging the collected money for banking and filling-in as a collector as and where required to ensure the sites were well covered. Says Presnell: "I'm amazed at how generously Kiwis give to the SPCA! From loose change in the bottom of pockets to neatly folded $20 notes, the donations just kept coming - and always with a big smile on the doner's face. It's a very rewarding feeling to be part of an organisation that does so much good for so many animals. Many doners told me stories about their beloved pets they had adopted from the SPCA in the past. Some spoke of plans to adopt a dog or cat in the future. It's great to see how many people really love and appreciate animals and are willing to 'do their part' to help. Some people even said to me that they wanted to be an SPCA collector next year, which is great!" A few of the collectors brought their dogs to their stations and many children (and adults!) enjoyed stopping for a chat and a pat. All in all the three days were a great success and Jeanine Gribbin confirms that the SPCA is hugely grateful for the efforts the collectors and coordinates have put in. Next up will be a 'Sausage Sizzle' for the collectors and supporters of the event at the SPCA's main base in Mangere. This will then be followed by the area coordinator's debrief and feedback session with a focus on continuous improvement of the annual appeal to ensure we are making it better every year. ![]() Sohana Nanoo [Sohana Communications], her dog 'Genevieve' and Mark Presnell and his Westie 'Twinkles Macduff' collecting outside Foodtown Highland Park. |
